And then you stop. You take a deep breath and let the initial amazement of the perfectly clean and arranged streets mutate into the discomfort of the lonely, almost desolate public space. You now notice that streets are empty, walls exaggeratedly harsh, buildings too sober. A closer look identifies signs of human presence: a ladder, a mail box, a cat door, an open window. You know people are close, but you don’t feel them in this setting too perfect to be human, too ascetic to have life, and therefore here darken in high grain silver prints, an atmosphere best captured by film photography.
